Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)
This historic and quite frankly, beautiful evergreen herb with its bright purple flowers has been somewhat forgotten in more recent times. Belonging to the Lamiaceace family (part of the mint and Rosemary clan) was referenced all the way back to bible and was often prescribed by the father of medicine himself, Hippocrates to treat conditions such as pleurisy as far back as the 4th century.
At little Wildling Co, we think Hyssop is pretty rad for its mild sedative effects so of course we had to have it in our sleepy Tea – I NEED A MOMENT.
For the fellow herb nerds out there, Hyssops chemical constituents: essentials oil, flavonoids (diosmin) and phenylpropanoids may help to relive symptoms associated with colds, coughs, sore throats and to relive digestive discomfort.
Actions: Expectorant, carminative, anti-catarrhal, spasmolytic, diaphoretic, mild sedative.
Indications: To help relive excess respiratory mucus including nasopharyngeal catarrh, acute and chronic bronchitis, asthma & bronchial asthma, sore throat, fever, common cold, flatulence, liver and gallbladder complaints.
Pregnancy / Breastfeeding safe: Avoid in pregnancy.
Enjoy in blends:
