St Mary’s Thistle (Silybum marianum)

Happy liver, happy life. Or so the saying should go.

The liver has a mammoth job(s) to do and we don’t always treat it so well. Good news is it does have the ability to regenerate, and that’s where our beautiful Silybum comes in to help it do just that.

St Marys Thistle has several active constituents the main ones being Silymarin and Silibin, but also bioflavanoids quercetin and taxifolin which are powerful antioxidants.

Its these antioxidants that exert its protective effects on the liver by competitive inhibition of certain toxins from binding and being taken up by the liver cells, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, and reducing the recirculation of toxins through bile flow.

If our liver is unhappy, it can have a cascade of affects throughout the body from poor digestive function to chronic skin conditions, to metabolic disorders, immune system dysregulation you name it.

So I think we can all agree our Liver has enough going on day to day, so what can you do to be kind to it? Get yourself one our Little Wilding Co’s teas below!
